Working across multiple media and genres, Christine Yao examines the ways we engage with and make meaning of the spaces around us.
A recurring interplay between solid and open areas in her work draws from the concept of “empty space” in traditional Asian painting. Her background as a designer in the fashion and home industries also informs subtle references to functionality, materiality, and human interaction within her artistic practice.
Yao currently lives and works in New York.
